  2.           Master Investor for Windows Version 1.17

  4. This file contains a brief program description, evaluation
  5. license terms, installation instructions, and information on
  6. obtaining technical support.

  8. Program Description
  9.      MI is a powerful tool that helps individual investors
  10.      and professional money managers organize and analyze
  11.      the information that is critical to making informed
  12.      investment decisions.  MI features:
  13.      >    Comprehensive portfolio management.  MI provides
  14.           complete tracking of security and cash
  15.           transactions with automatic computation of net
  16.           worth, capital gains, return on investment, asset
  17.           allocation and much more. MI allows you to
  18.           orgainze your information into up to 1,000
  19.           portfolios and produce reports based on any
  20.           combination of one or more portfolios.
  21.      >    Technical analysis. MI creates and displays
  22.           technical analysis charts with your choice of
  23.           technical indicators including moving averages,
  24.           stochastics, on-balance volume, relative strength
  25.           index, MACD, trend analysis, ratio cantor and
  26.           correlation analysis.
  27.      >    Built-in Price Loader.  Just download price/volume
  28.           data from your favorite information provider and
  29.           use MI's Import option to update all your charts
  30.           and portfolios. We have pre-defined import formats
  31.           for over a dozen popular information services such
  32.           as Compuserve, Prodigy, AOL, Quote.Com and more.
  33.           If your service is not included you can easily add
  34.           it by defining a new data format.
  35.      >    Support for sophistocated trades. MI fully
  36.           supports all IRS approved cost basis accounting
  37.           methods for stocks, bonds, mutual funds, short
  38.           sales, put options and call options. MI also
  39.           provides an automatic sweep of funds to and from
  40.           cash accounts when entering security transactions
  41.           and investment income.
  42.      >    Asset allocation.  MI produces reports and graphs
  43.           showing the allocation of assets by portfolio, by
  44.           type and by user defined investment objective.
  45.      >    Powerful report generator. Our report generator
  46.           lets you customize each of the over 20 reports to
  47.           include any time span and any combination of
  48.           portfolios so you get just the information you
  49.           need.

  51. Evaluation License
  52.      This program is licensed for evaluation only.
  53.      
  54.      You are hereby granted a license to use this software
  55.      for an evaluation period of up to 30 days.  If you
  56.      continue to use this software beyond the evaluation
  57.      period you must purchase a license.  DO NOT install
  58.      this software if you do not agree to the terms of this
  59.      evaluation license.

  61. System Requirements
  62.      MI requires Windows 3.1 or higher, a hard disk with
  63.      approximately 2.5 megabytes of free space, 4 Megabytes
  64.      of RAM, and a Windows compatible graphics printer.  In
  65.      your Config.Sys file, the parameter "Files=" should be
  66.      set to 40 or more.

  68.      Master Investor requires a default printer be defined
  69.      in the windows control panel.  Choose the "Printers"
  70.      icon from the Windows Control Panel.  If no printers
  71.      have been installed, you will need to install one. If
  72.      you already have installed printers choose one that is
  73.      capable of printing truetype fonts (i.e. a graphics
  74.      printer and not a fax modem).  After installing or
  75.      selecting a printer, click the "Set as Default" button
  76.      to set the printer as your default windows printer.

  78. Installation
  79.      The download archive (zip) file contains the following

  91.      To prepare for installation, unzip the archive (or copy
  92.      all of the above files) to a blank formatted floppy
  93.      disk (1.4 Meg capacity or higher) or to an empty
  94.      (scratch) directory on your hard disk.
  95.      
  96.      To install MI, use the Program Manager or File Manager
  97.      to start INSTALL.EXE as you would any other Windows-
  98.      based application.  For example, if you are installing
  99.      from drive A:
  100.      
  101.      1.   From the Program Manager File menu, choose Run.
  102.      2.   In the Run dialog box, type A:INSTALL and choose
  103.      OK.
  104.      
  105.      The install program will allow you to select the drive
  106.      and directory where MI will be installed.  The default
  107.      is C:\MI.  If you are reinstalling MI or installing an
  108.      updated version, use the same directory where you
  109.      originally installed the program.
  110.      
  111.      Before writing files to your hard disk, the install
  112.      program checks to see if a file with the same name
  113.      already exists.  If there is another file with the same
  114.      name, a message is displayed and you will have a choice
  115.      of overwriting the existing file or not.
  116.      
  117.      You should choose to overwrite existing files ONLY if
  118.      the source file is newer than the Target (existing)
  119.      File.

  121.      The Install program creates a program group named
  122.      "Master Investor" with icons for the Master Investor
  123.      program, Master Investor Help (MI Help) and Master
  124.      Investor README (MI Read Me).

  126. Starting MI
  127.      The data files shipped with MI contain sample data that
  128.      is provided to help you become familiar with the
  129.      various options and capabilities of MI.  The sample
  130.      data covers the period November 1993 through October
  131.      1995.  The Learning Master Investor section of the
  132.      User's Guide contains a step-by-step guide to getting
  133.      acquainted with MI.

  135. Technical Support
  136.      If you are unable to resolve a question or you have
  137.      difficulty running MI, please call or send us a letter
  138.      describing the problem.  Include the exact text of the
  139.      error message (if any) and a complete description of
  140.      the problem, your computer system (computer, memory,
  141.      graphics card, DOS and Windows version, contents of
  142.      CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files, etc.), the option
  143.      you were running when the error occurred and any
  144.      supplemental data that you entered under the option.
  145.      If sending a letter, please also include a disk created
  146.      using the File/Backup Data option (your data will be
  147.      held in strict confidence).  We will investigate the
  148.      problem and respond as quickly as possible.
